The use of non-uniform sampling (NUS) has long held the promise of collecting heteronuclear NMR spectra in record time. However, many are hesitant to implement relevant techniques in real-world experiments; the chief obstacle is predicting the smallest required sample that would be guaranteed to result in a high-quality spectrum.
By empirically determining minimal spectra for large numbers of high–resolution datasets, reliable guidelines for pre-determining an optimal NUS schedule can be recommended for each type of NMR experiment. Once empirical sampling rules for a sufficient number of experiments have been determined, we hope to establish a physical basis for determining a structure's optimal sampling schedule.
