NMR-anal

NMR-anal, or (invocation) nmranal, is an NMR data processing and analysis suite for POSIX-compatible systems. It implements a CLI and web frontend for its own analysis systems, and allows users a choice of popular NMR software to be used as processing backends.

All releases have been pulled from this server, due to

  • Issues with maintaining non-free backends:
    • Incompatibility with modern operating systems
    • Non-portablility to certain architectures
    • Spurrious results from a closed-source backend
  • Issues with integrating free backends
    • Lack of functionality
  • Issues with frontends:
    • CLI frontend not suitable for low-memory systems
    • Could not maintain compatibility with older Perl installations still in use on many web servers

All public releases were made available under the terms of the GNU Affero General Public License (Version 3), and one research group was provided with GPLv3-licensed code. You are still permitted to use, distribute or modify any code you can dig up under the terms of its applicable license, or demand source code for any AGPL implementation you may encounter on the web, but I will no longer make myself responsible by distributing any of the code myself (for whatever reason).

For developers: I would recommend a completely new implementation in a modern language, that does not require or bend over backwards to accomodate any external backend (i.e., all functionality implemented internally). This will require a lot of work, but is better than relying on non-free code from the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s to function as intended in modern environments.
